Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Warriors Party

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a wide array of heroes, and a gripping narrative showcasing angels, evil spirits, and malevolent powers growing in strength within the city.

Warning: Spoilers for the latest installment of the new season are included.

The Soldiers Table Revealed

The latest chapter ended with a dramatic pause and presented the initial group of characters who will split off from the central cast to undertake their independent quest, distinct from the additional parties.

The combat-focused team features the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).

The Reason for Division

Considering a large ensemble, it was evident from the outset that keeping everyone at a single group would be unworkable.

This explains, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, weaving together the personal journeys before branching into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Strategists, and Questers.

The Nature of the Combat Party

According to the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for adventurers who prefer a typically action-packed battle-oriented gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are scarce.

Upon first impression, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might look unsuited, but the developments of the latest installment make it clear why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the warrior group.

Why They Must Go

First, the group understands precisely where to head next after a brutal opening clash with the antagonists.

A former ally of Thjazi—whose passing started the story’s plot—exploited The Crow Keepers for his own means, breaking into the secret base, striking the character, and taking all the magical artifacts to auction.

The antagonist then settled his debts and fled to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the city, with Cyd pursuing him.

Character Drivers

Additionally, each member has a personal reason to leave the city Dol-Makjar:

  • The rogue, as the companion and best friend, wants retribution.
  • Kattigan has experience in Timmony and advises that it is a dangerous environment.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having resisted his relatives’ demands to kill the target and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
  • However, their position as prominent individuals in House Halovar could help the party enter areas they usually can’t.
  • Moreover, Teor swore a unbreakable promise to The savior for his rescue and will now accompany him anywhere.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are sought by the powers that govern the setting for a multiple motives, making remaining behind too risky:

  • The agile adventurer and Kattigan are known criminals.
  • The warrior and The cleric turned against House Halovar and the legion of demons they are allied with.
  • Teor is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.

This means them little choice but to travel to Timmony in search of the traitor.

Future Episodes

From episode three’s Cooldown, we discover that the warrior group won’t be around the following episode, leaving the rest of the players to assemble the Seekers and Strategists tables.

Audiences can expect discovering which players will be where in the season’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on next week.
